Две распространённые версии:
1. Джоли сидела у себя дома, в роскошной вилле где-то в ЛА, щёлкала пультом от телевизора и случайно наткнулась на передачу о беженцах. Она была под таким сильным впечатлением, что сразу же по окончании передачи она набрала номер (показанный в конце передачи для желающих оказать помощь ООН), и результат нам известен.
2. Некоторые сцены фильма "Лара Крофт. Расхитительница гробниц" снимались в Камбоджии. Именно там Джоли впервые увидела беженцев. Контраст между жизнью богатых и знаменитых в США и жизнью беженцев в Камбоджии произвёл на неё такое сильное впечатление, что она решила во чтобы то ни стало помочь этим людям. Кст, именно в Камбоджии она и усыновила Мэддокса. Она финансирует проект по расчистки страны от мин и сохранению природных заповедников Камбоджии и является почётным гражданином этой страны.

по-моему, 2-я версия и есть верная... Где-то я точно читала об этом. Может даже в её дневнике... Ты читала кстати её книгу "Мои путевые записи"? Очень рекомендую!!!
